With food you can achieve a lot during the practice of trailrunning. As a trailrunner it may be wise to carry your own food with you… But what should you bring? And how do you prepare for an ultra trail? On this page you will find information about recipes nutrition and more which helps you giving your body precisely the amount of energy it needs for walking an (ultra)trail.
The right type of energy
A trailrunner is in need of an other type of energy as someone who is practicing martial arts. How does that work exactly ?
In our diet we distinguish three kind of energy sources: carbohydrates, proteins and fat. The main source energy is carbohydrates. The downside of carbohydrates is that they have limited storage. This also applies to proteins, which eventually will be converted into fat.
What is the proper balance between the three energy sources?
For endurance athletes and trailrunners the ratio of carbohydrates, proteins and fat important. The ideal ratio is:
15 % of proteins
65 % carbohydrates
20 % fat
A strength athlete benefits from a different ratio:
20 % fat
Carbohydrates are the main source of energy that we use during trailrunning.
PREPERATIONS FOR AN EVENT
The last days before a marathon it’s all about eating carbohydrates. That means you have to eat a lot of food. Keep in mind that it is better to eat smaller portions six or seven times a day instead of three big once.
